This is my third year successfully completing NaNoDrawMo! (See 2009 and 2011. Apparently odd years are my good ones.)
This year, I went with drawing mostly comics. It got challenging near the end to come up with new material, although most of the stuff I drew involved real-life situations that had happened within the past 24 hours. I’ve decided to post all of them below, so this is going to be long after you make the jump…
Perhaps not the best introduction, but below, there’s me, Steve, then Benjamin (1 year old, clinging to my leg), Matthew (3 years old, standing up and wailing), and Steven (5 years old, collapsed in tears on the ground). Steven and Steve have similar cartoon hair, while Matthew has long bangs across the forehead and Benjamin has thick, spiky or messy hair.
This was my only non-pen-and-ink drawing.
Steven gets candy when he is done practicing piano. After Halloween – he’s been practicing piano multiple times a day!
Real-life conversation below with Matthew.
One of my least favorite comments:
He gets points for persistence.
Steven’s love language is “giving gifts.”
Drawing done while listening to a sermon about Daniel 6.
I saw some pen-and-ink drawings that were full of texture, but with child-like simple shapes and animals. I tried to come up with my own version.
Benjamin is still figuring out how to eat with a spoon.
You’ll probably have to click in to see the larger version.
Have you seen the video about “People with no kids don’t know“? A few comics were inspired by it.
I’ve got the family picture thing down.
Matthew has a phobia of water on his face, which can be problematic.
Benjamin’s first word besides “mama” and “dada” was “quack.”
Sketchnotes from a book I’m reading (The Just Church by Jim Martin).
And the last one… another comment I don’t usually appreciate.
I enjoyed these immensely! I have daughters aged 3 and 4 and could see our family in many of these. Thanks for the laughs! My favorite is the Daniel sketch. Praise the Lord!
